The S/Y Merrymaid Racing Yacht
It was in April of 1904 when the 30-metre racing yacht Merrymaid was launched in Gosport, near Portsmouth, in the UK. Over the next century, it went on to win many races. Including. In its first year. The Kings Cup in 1904.
Like many wooden boats whose glory days have passed. Merrymaid was discovered in less than glorious conditions, sitting in a mud berth in Essex, barely afloat and being used as a houseboat.
A passionate owner reclaimed her. And the restoration began in earnest in 2006. Under the direction of none other than the Brazilian classic yacht specialist Pere Barrio Magem. He remains with the yacht to this day, acting as the manager of the boat and first mate.
Merrymaid’s restoration was completed in 2008. When her new Swiss owner began an ambitious circumnavigation of the world.
This is a beautifully restored 115-year-old wooden racing yacht.
