This is Phil Beckett. And this is his story of what happens to men who cut stone. And their replicas. For kitchens. Please read it. And choose another option. I'm really serious when I say - the kitchens to die for. Are not worth dying for. ~Carol❤

This is me. And my older sister. Reading in bed after lights out. Only we didn't have fairy lights. My sister saved her allowance and purchased a flashlight. Without our parents knowing. And smuggled it into our bedroom. It was our gateway to reading at night. I've no idea where she hid it during the day. Of if our mother ever found it. If she did. She never said a word. Memories! ~Carol❤

We're building a new house. At 'Swifts Creek. Life At The Top Of The Mountain'. I'm going to have a lovely kitchen. A better kitchen than I've ever had before. Which will be a treat for me. As I love cooking.

But I still indulge in Kitchen Porn. I love looking at all the kitchens I'll never have.

Because I'm anti-stone for benchtops. Because of the health hazard for the makers.

My benchtops will be Formica Laminate. Colour Pure Marble. Totally fake. But it looks like the real thing! Without the onerous health consequences. ~Carol❤

I learned to read in the 1st grade. In New York City. And haven't been without a book in my hands since then. Both traditional books. And eBooks. Paper books are my absolute favourite.

A visit to the NYC Public Library was a weekly affair for my family.

This was my favourite reading position. Propped up on the couch. With a bank of pillows behind me. Anticipating the next adventure. On the next page.

What's your favourite childhood memory about reading? ~Carol❤

Beautiful Libraries. And Rooms To Read In.

When I was growing up in New York City. Libraries were a very formal affair. Lots of mahogany counters. Staircases. Bookshelves. Plush reading chairs and couches. And shush signs everywhere.

In my adopted country. Australia. My favourite place in Sydney was The Mitchell Library. Ditto for all of the above.

Today's modern libraries allow for conversation. Are more metal and steel. Rather than luxurious mahogany.

Are meeting places for young mothers. Seniors. Children after school. And in my regional library in rural Victoria. A place to sip a cup of coffee. When calling time-out.

As a regular user of libraries. I miss the pomp and circumstance of the old. While appreciating the breath of fresh air of the new.

The Wilbur Cross Reading Room at the University of Connecticut has recently been renovated. In 2018. In keeping with an earlier time.

What's your favourite ambience for libraries? ~Carol❤
